Notes for Wade Franklin Shell
Mr. W.F. Shell was born in Fayette County, Ga., February 2, 1855. His parents moved to this county when he was an infant and he has lived in Butler since that time. He attended the country schools near his home, afterward entering the Greenville Collegiate Institute at this place. Leaving school he devoted his energies to farming and teaching, spending six years in that way. In 18? he was elected Circuit Clerk and came to Greenville to reside. After serving two terms, proving himself an efficient officer, he withdrew from political life and engaged in merchandising. He is associated in business with his brother-in-law, M.F. Rhodes, the firm being Shell and Rhodes. And in every other pursuit Mr. Shell has done well, establishing a prosperous business and winning the confidence of his customers in fair and square dealings.
He is a prominent member of the Methodist Church, a constant attendant at the Sunday school and a member of the Board of Stewards. He also belongs to the Masonic fraternity, in which he takes an active interest.
Mr. Shell has been happily married a number of years, his wife being Miss Elizabeth Rhodes, eldest daughter of the late N.M. Rhodes.
