Notes for Zaccheus Wright
"Old Tranquil Methodist Church. This building was destroyed or removed to near Jalapa Station about the year 1890. Later it was used as a school house. The first congregation was organized about 1799, and the first bulding erected with logs in that year. The site of this old church is adjacent to the present cemetery which contains many old markers over the graves of many first settlers of that community. The organizers of the church were: Zaccheus Wright, Dr. Thomas Shell, and Robert Gilliam. In 1832, a new building of frame structure replaced the log house. In 1859, a much larger frame church was erected. The first Sunday School organized in the county was started in this church, about the year 1827, by Zaccheus Wright, with the help of a local Presbyterian named Absalom Glasgow. They thought there was much need for a school of religious instruction for children in that section."

"In a short sketch (and these that I give are of necessity compelled to be very short) justice cannot be done to the memory of the many good men and women mentioned. Amongst these is Zaccheus Wright, the father of Captain Robert H. Wright, of the town of Newberry, and mentioned lovingly by the one who gives me these sketehes as "my sainted uncle." He and Robert Glenn Gilliam were near neighbors, and were truly some of the "salt of the earth." They worshiped together at the same church, "Tranquil," for many years. They both are asleep in Jesus, "blessed sleep." Their bodies are interred in the same cemetery, close by the church, where in life they were so fond of attending, there to await the first resurrection. Rest in peace with all the faithful in Christ. Amen."
