Served in WWII and Korea. Retired as a U.S. Army Brigadier General, Ordinance Corps. First project manager of US anti-missile system. Is (reportedly) in the Smithsonian Aeronautics Hall of Fame.

Undergraduate degree from Georgia Tech, graduate degree from Univ. of Michigan. (engineering and business).

Nickname "Uncle Bus" derived from Buster Brown haircut worn in childhood.
