Family Bible records date his birth in 1823, but his tombstone says 1830. His name appears as William Sidney in the Bible records, Marriage License, and Alabama Land Deed and Census records, but his tombstone reads William Alexander. Hazel Y. Mize Lewis thinks he may have used or had both names.
