Notes for John Thomas Whittington
John T. Whittington was born near Troy in Pike County, Alabama. He enlisted April 10, 1862 at Spring Hill, Pike County, into Company K, 37th Alabama Regiment. Whittington was captured at the Battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi by Union soldiers when the city fell. He was paroled on August 7, 1864 and returned to his command. He was at Mobile, Alabama when the war ended.
He was living in the Bolling community in 1900. At that time, John owned the land upon which he lived and farmed.
