Notes for Samuel Aiken Todd
In 1832, Samuel Todd sold Nathan T. Proctor 37 acres on the Saluda River, originally granted to Thomas Fakes, for $300 (Laurens Co., SC Deed Book M, page 225). In 1835, Samuel and Thomas Todd received $23.60 from Nathan T. Proctor as "our mother's share of the tract of land lately owned by Nathan Todd..." (Laurens Co., SC Deed Book N, page 106).
In 1837 Samuel Todd moved to the Long Branch section of Laurens County (north of Clinton, SC). On December 5, 1837 he purchased 208 acres of land from Robert Blakely for $1137.50. On January 4, 1842 he purchased 150 acres from William B. Sheldon for $569.22. On January 19, 1842, still another 103 acres from William Starnes. The Long Branch Schoolhouse is currently located on this land.
