Notes for Effie Joree Glasgow
Effie Joree took her sister Ada's place in going back to South Carolina to be educated. Her sister, Ada, was the one that was supposed to go and had already packed her trunk to leave. But Ada's insistent crying of not wanting to leave her home and her mother must have weighed heavily with Effie Joree. So Effie Joree decided that she would take Ada's place and go herself. Since the clothes that were packed in the trunk would fit her, she took it and travelled the long way to Newberry, South Carolina to be educated.
By going back to Newberry, Effie Joree met her husband there and remained in South Carolina raising her family. It grieved her father, Spencer Lafayette, to know that his daughter married so far away from home and he stated that he was going to put a stop to the matter. But he must have changed his mind because Effie Joree stayed in South Carolina.
