Notes for Otha Virginia Day
Virginia graduated from Sycamore High School in Turner County, Georgia in 1934. They later moved to Crisp County, Georgia, in 1943 moved to Atlanta and in 1953 to Macon, Georgia where they owned and operated Alexander Frame Shop until they retired in 1985. Virginia is a charter member of Exchangettes of Bibb County, past president and named Outstanding Exchangette in 1966. Mac was a charter member of the Exchange Club of Bibb County, past president and named the outstanding Exchangite in 1966. They were the first couple in Georgia to receive this award in the same year. They are charter members of the Georgia Square Dancers Association, honorary members of the Georgia Square Dance Callers Association and voted Mr. and Mrs. Square Dancers of Georgia. They formed and were coordinators of 4-H Square Dancing in Georgia. Georgia was the first state to have 4-H Square Dancing. They were voted Grandma and Grandpa of 4-H Square Dancers and received the Outstanding Citation for 4-H work. They receive the Macon Believers Award and are both life members of the Young Womens Christian Association. Virginia is a member of the General David Blackshear Chapter of the DAR in Rochelle, the Major Phillip Cook Chapter of the United Daughters of 1812, the Georgia Pioneers, the Wilcox Rifles Chapter of the UDC in Rochelle, and a member of the Mulberry Street United Methodist Church.
