Notes for Robert Sloan Coleman
R.S. Coleman, 79, died in a Columbia hospital yesterday morning at 11 o'clock. Mr. Coleman was a
lifelong resident of Greenville county, having been born and reared at Travelers Rest, a son of the late Elisha and Caroline Cureton Coleman. For 30 years Mr. Coleman was employed by the Gallivan Construction company of this city but had retired a few years ago because of failing health. Prior to entering the hospital he made his home with a son, B.J. Coleman, 306 Summit Street in the City View community.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. F.W. Burts, Greensboro, NC; Mrs. W.C. Whitney, Durham, NC;
Mrs. W.A. Smith, Greenville, and two sons B.J. Coleman, Greenville, and Claud Coleman, New York City,
in addition to twelve grandchildren. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Funeral services will be held this morning at 11:30 o'clock from the graveside in Berea Baptist church cemetery, Rev. S.W. Jolly officiating.
The pallbearers will be Lee Coleman, Harry Coleman, Harmon Coleman, Lewis Coleman, S.W. Austin and Lawrence Austin.
The body is at the Thomas McAfee funeral home awaiting the hour of the service.
